FORUM ON CHALLENGES TO HEALTHCARE

On Saturday, May 20th from 12 noon to 1 pm, ThinkTech will present a live Point-Counterpoint forum on Challenges to Healthcare in Hawaii.

The forum will be moderated by former Governor John Waihe'e. The panelists will be Hilton Raethel, CEO of Hawaii Healthcare Association, Scott Grosskreutz, a radiologist in Hilo, Esther Smith, a family practice doctor in Kona, and Vicky Cayetano, businesswoman, politician, and informed citizen.

The panel will address a number of questions related to healthcare in Hawaii. Some of the questions include the doctor drain, nursing and dentist shortages, solutions proposed by the Hawaii Medical Association and health insurance companies, and the tension between independent physicians and corporate healthcare organizations.

Other topics to be discussed include the effect of the doctor drain on the standard of care, the future of healthcare in Hawaii, life expectancy and infant mortality, the aging population and senior facilities, and the correlation between poverty, homelessness and public health.

The panel will also examine whether more drugs should be made available over the counter, the need for more pharmacists in Hawaii, and the impact of high-tech miracle drugs on healthcare costs. Additionally, they will consider the relationship between government, poverty, and public health.

Overall, the forum promises to be an informative and engaging discussion of the many challenges facing healthcare in Hawaii.  Please join us then on thinktechhawaii.com.
