What does Agricultural Diversification Mean to Hawaii? With the help of a grant from Cooke Foundation, and through the efforts of filmmaker Kim Bassford, ThinkTech is making a documentary film on agricultural diversification in Hawaii because we think it’s a very important topic.
Supply lines have been disrupted (see the first segment on 60 minutes this past Sunday) and are likely to stay disrupted until the country can figure out how to ameliorate the causes of the disruption.
Also, there is a serious climate change drought in the West, particularly in the Colorado River basin, and this is also a threat fo our imported food supply. Given these threats, Hawaii, which is now almost completely dependent on imported food, is at risk of not being to get enough food.
The film should be done and released in the early part of next year, so stay tuned for a more drill down discussion of what is going on in local agriculture.
